Alpaca Walking Near the New Forest — Your Hampshire Guide

If you are staying in or visiting the New Forest and searching for an alpaca walk nearby, this guide is for you. Hensting Alpacas sits just east of the National Park at Itchen Valley Country Park, near Southampton — an easy drive from Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst, Lymington and Totton. Here is everything you need to plan your visit.

Where Is the Nearest Alpaca Walk to the New Forest?

Hensting Alpacas at Itchen Valley Country Park (West End, Southampton, SO30 3HQ) is one of the closest alpaca walking experiences to the New Forest. We are just off the M27 on the eastern edge of the Forest area, so you can combine a Forest day out with a guided alpaca walk without a long drive.

How Far Is It From the New Forest?

  • Totton — 15–20 minutes
  • Lyndhurst — 25–30 minutes
  • Brockenhurst — 30–35 minutes
  • Lymington — 30–35 minutes
  • Southampton — 10–15 minutes

What Is an Alpaca Walk?

A guided alpaca walk at Hensting Alpacas is a 2-hour experience where you meet your own alpaca, learn to walk them on a halter, and set off on a circular route through 440 acres of ancient woodland and water meadow alongside the River Itchen. An experienced handler leads every walk — you are the handler of your alpaca for the full two hours. It is a proper countryside walk, not a petting session, and the setting has the same wild, unhurried feel as the New Forest itself.

How Much Does It Cost?

Walks start from £32 per person for the 2-hour guided experience. Family and group pricing is available, and gift vouchers (valid 12 months, instant email delivery) start from £32 too.

Make a Day of It

An alpaca walk pairs beautifully with a New Forest trip — combine a morning among the Forest ponies with an afternoon walking alpacas at Itchen Valley, or the other way round. The country park also has Go Ape, six play areas, a woodland café and miles of accessible trails, so there is plenty to fill a full family day.

Who Can Come?

All ages are welcome. Children aged 3+ walk alongside an adult, infants are welcome in carriers, and our Wednesday accessible sessions (April–October) are designed for all abilities with free carer tickets.
