Alpaca Season Tickets — A Complete Hampshire Guide
Season tickets are common at theme parks, zoos and heritage sites, but almost unheard of for animal experiences. Hensting Alpacas at Itchen Valley Country Park near Southampton now offers one: six guided alpaca walks over twelve months for £149. This guide explains exactly how it works, what it covers, and — the question worth asking of any membership — whether it actually saves you money.
What Is an Alpaca Walking Season Ticket?
It is a twelve-month pass covering six alpaca walks. Rather than booking and paying each time, you buy the six up front at a lower rate and spend them whenever suits you across the year. The pass covers one person and one alpaca per visit, and includes one seasonal event — a Christmas, Easter or Valentine's walk — which would normally be priced separately.
The Arithmetic
A standard adult alpaca walk at Hensting Alpacas is £32. Six of them come to £192. The season ticket is £149, so the saving is £43, or roughly 22%. Put another way, the pass breaks even on your fifth walk. Visit three or more times a year and it is straightforwardly cheaper. Visit once, and a single ticket or a gift voucher makes far more sense.
How You Actually Use It
Buying takes a couple of minutes: your details, a photograph, and payment by card or bank transfer. The pass number arrives by email. From then on you book walks on the normal calendar and enter that number at checkout — the walk cost is deducted automatically and your balance is shown on the confirmation. There is no separate members' booking system to learn.
Why the Photograph?
The pass is personal and cannot be lent or shared, and a photo is the only way to check that fairly. It is stored securely, visible only to our team at check-in, never published anywhere, and deleted when the pass expires. In practice you upload it once and never think about it again.
What the Pass Does Not Cover
Llama Keeper Experiences and Family Open Days are excluded, as is a second seasonal event within the same year. Additional walkers in your party are very welcome but pay the normal price — the pass covers the holder. For most people that works out well, because the pass holder brings someone different each visit anyway.
Cancellations
A walk is deducted when you book it, not when you turn up — that stops passes being used to hold scarce weekend places speculatively. If you need to cancel, let us know in good time and the walk goes straight back onto your pass.
Who It Suits
Regular visitors are the obvious group. Beyond them, photographers value seeing the same herd through four distinct seasons, and a surprising number of pass holders treat the walk as a deliberate hour outdoors with no screen involved. Families often hold one pass and rotate who comes along.
Where the Walks Happen
Every walk departs from Itchen Valley Country Park, Allington Lane, West End, Southampton, SO30 3HQ — 440 acres of ancient woodland and water meadows along the River Itchen, with sixteen consecutive Green Flag Awards. Around 10 minutes from Southampton and Eastleigh, 25 from Winchester, 35 from Portsmouth. Parking from £1.30/hour, free for Blue Badge holders.
