Summer Alpaca Walks Hampshire — Complete Hampshire Guide

Summer alpaca walks at Hensting Alpacas in Hampshire are among the most sought-after family activities in the region — two hours in the ancient woodland of Itchen Valley Country Park with 40+ alpacas, baby cria still available on morning sessions, and the option to extend your visit with Go Ape, trails, and play areas. This guide covers everything you need to plan a summer alpaca walk in Hampshire, from booking in advance to what to bring on a warm day.

What Is an Alpaca Walk at Hensting Alpacas?

A guided alpaca walk at Hensting Alpacas involves meeting your own alpaca companion, learning how to walk them with a halter, and setting off on a 2-hour circular route through Itchen Valley Country Park's ancient woodland and water meadows. The walk covers approximately one mile on level, surfaced paths alongside the River Itchen, led by an experienced handler throughout. It is not a zoo visit or a petting session — you are the handler, walking your alpaca at a gentle countryside pace for the full two hours.

Why Summer Alpaca Walks Hampshire Is a Special Time to Visit

Summer is the most spectacular season to walk alpacas at Itchen Valley Country Park. The ancient woodlands are in full leaf, the water meadows along the River Itchen are lush and green, and our 2026 baby alpacas — born from February onwards — are now confident, playful, and full of personality. July and August are our busiest months, which means the herd is at its most active, the park is at its most beautiful, and family groups can combine an alpaca walk with a full day out including Go Ape, the woodland café, and six play areas. Morning slots fill fastest in summer; afternoon walks run every Friday and Saturday from 1:30pm until late October.

What to Expect on the Day

Our summer alpaca walks operate across seven days per week in July and August, with morning sessions running from 10:00am–12:00pm and afternoon sessions every Friday and Saturday from 1:30pm–3:00pm. Summer sessions are our most popular of the year — book as early as possible to secure your preferred date, particularly for the baby alpaca morning walks which are limited in number. The summer school holiday period (late July through August) is especially popular with families visiting from Southampton, Winchester, Eastleigh, Portsmouth, and beyond.
