Daisy's Story

Born on 8th June 2025, Daisy had a very straightforward birth. She is a healthy and beautiful looking cria (baby alpaca) with a light fawn fleece. She was quite a surprise as all of Koala's previous cria have shared Koala's tuxedo grey colouring. All is going well for Daisy, she has a very strong bond with her mother and has thrived on her milk.

Although alpacas begin to graze at about 3 weeks of age, she won't be fully weaned until 5-6 months of age. Nutrition is always a real concern, and we have to make sure she gets plenty of hard feed as well as her mother's milk. The father does not have a role in the rearing of their young.

Fleece & Conformation

Daisy has a solid colour in her fleece, which is sought after, and her first 'baby' fleece showed medium crimp and density. Her conformation (shape) is looking to be of a high standard, though this cannot be judged until she is 3 years of age.

Family & Personality

She is Koala's fifth cria and already has several nieces and nephews before she was born. Along with her mum, Koala, we currently have Kahlua, Ebony, Mulan, Olaf, Eros and Apollo, all from Koala's line, along with many from Grand Design on the farm. She is also aunty to the other three cria born this year!

Daisy had a bit of a wait for some playmates, being 4 weeks older, but soon was instigating games and playing with the others once they arrived. These games are a necessary part of development as the cria are learning how to earn their place in the herd as they mature.

Training & Future

Daisy will be starting halter training in November 2025 and will be joining us on our alpaca walks in February 2026. Daisy will take part in the walks until she is ready to mate in summer 2027.
