Hampshire's calming Wellbeing Walk — every Wednesday at Itchen Valley Country Park. Free carer tickets, sensory-friendly, small group sessions.
Picture walking through ancient woodland alongside a curious, gentle alpaca — their soft footsteps on the path, the River Itchen visible through the trees, and the sounds of the countryside replacing everything else for two hours. That is what Hensting Alpacas at Itchen Valley Country Park offers Hampshire visitors, every Wednesday from April through to October.
Our Wednesday Wellbeing Walks run at a relaxed pace, designed for visitors with sensory needs, autism, anxiety, learning disabilities, or anyone who benefits from a calmer, more supported pace. Carers attend free of charge. Advance booking essential to guarantee your space on this popular session.
Hensting Alpacas runs a dedicated Wellbeing Walk every Wednesday from April through to October — a session specifically designed for visitors with sensory needs, learning disabilities, autism, anxiety, or anyone who benefits from a more relaxed, supported pace. Carers attend entirely free of charge on Wednesday Wellbeing sessions, and the walk is led by handlers experienced in adapting the experience to meet each visitor's needs. Please note: we're unfortunately unable to accommodate wheelchairs or other mobility aids on these walks — our field and gravel access path aren't suitable, particularly in wet weather. Advanced booking is essential as numbers per session are intentionally kept small to ensure quality of experience.
Your walk begins with an introduction to your alpaca companion — learning their name, their personality, and how to walk them safely with the halter. The route takes you through Itchen Valley's ancient woodland and water meadows, with your handler explaining alpaca behaviour, the park's ecology, and the history of this remarkable 440-acre countryside setting along the way. The walk ends with feeding time and close-contact time with the wider herd.
Wednesday Wellbeing Walks run from 10:00am–11:30am, a slightly shorter session than our standard walks, and are limited to a smaller group size to allow extra time and care for each participant. Hensting Alpacas is one of very few UK alpaca experiences to offer a dedicated wellbeing-focused session as a regular fixture rather than by special arrangement — our Wednesday sessions are open to anyone who would benefit from a calmer, less crowded, more supported alpaca walk.

We recommend sturdy, closed-toe footwear (wellies in wet weather), weather-appropriate clothing, and layers. We walk in most weather conditions, so dress for the outdoors!
Yes! All children are welcome. Children under 8 must have one dedicated adult, and children 12+ may lead an alpaca independently. Everyone needs a valid ticket.
We're located at Itchen Valley Country Park in Hampshire, just 15 minutes from Southampton, Winchester, and Eastleigh. Easy access from Portsmouth, Romsey, and surrounding areas.
We walk in light rain! Only severe weather will cancel walks. If we cancel, you can rebook within 3 months. We recommend adding our £4.50 rescheduling insurance for flexibility.
